What is this website?

I am a normal (well, I like to think so) suburban dad living in California. That means that we get the “apocalypse grab-bag” of everything from Earthquakes, to Wildfires, to Droughts, to other general craziness that comes along with our state. I have no special advanced degree in preparedness, and I am not a legal expert, or even a contractor or nurse. Lots of people know more about lots of things than I do. And I am ok with that.

I take my duties as a husband, father, and member of my community seriously, however. And as a part of that, I have over the past couple decades, spent a lot of time thinking about being prepared. I feel that I take a common sense approach to preparedness. I harbor no secret desire for the world to be turned upside down, so I can finally “have my day.” I’d greatly prefer for civilization to keep on rolling in a productive and useful way, with no zombies, or asteroids, or societal breakdowns. I have an excellent life, and would really like to keep it.

This website was written by me because I have had countless discussions with friends, neighbors and colleagues who simply aren’t sure how to start being prepared. A lot of the content on this site might not be for everyone. I have a California bias in a lot of this. But I am hoping that maybe by making some lists, or writing down my thoughts in some way, that some folks might have better, safer, and more comfortable lives because of it.

I also have used this project as a way to learn things. Writing my ideas down has actually helped me a lot to organize better, prioritize better, and be more mindful. I am not a professional writer, and I tend to write like I speak, but I have enjoyed the actual writing of it as well. Lastly, I am learning about website construction, blogging, and things like affiliate marketing. I don’t particularly care if this site makes me money, but it has been fun learning about the actual rules and ins and outs of affiliate marketing. For example, I have Amazon affiliate links on this site, which I am sure you figured out. I have never linked to anything I didn’t already own, and I don’t actually care if you buy anything. But if Amazon is willing to pay me (in gift cards, mind you, so I am probably just gonna buy more Mountain House freeze dried meals with it anyways!) 3% or whatever if you click and actually purchase something, I figure why not?

Take what you like. Ignore what you don’t like. But give it all a little thought. Hopefully my arguments or stories can help you on whatever path you are on.
